Picking Up Trash

Picking up trash is one of the things I do whenever I go to a grocery store.

I carry disposable gloves in my glove box and from my parking spot to the store enterance, I pick up discarded trash.

Got my glove!

(The gloves are a concession to my husband who insisted on them for my protection. In my haste to “tick” Integrity and Honor categories, I sometimes don’t think about my safety :/)

Last night, I went to Walmart to get my brother a birthday cake because mom’s out of town and I couldn’t let his birth date go cakeless!

It was late, I was tired, it had been a long day and I didn’t want to “glove up” or pick up other people’s trash!

I got out of the car and headed into the store.

I took two steps before I felt God nudging me to leave a place (Walmart’s parking lot) cleanner than I found it by picking up trash.

I returned back to my car, got my glove on and picked up every piece of trash I saw on my way to the entrance.

(My goal is 5 pieces of trash, and Walmart never fails to let me score ‘bonus’ trash items lol)

Mission accomplished!

I realized that had I not returned to my car, and gloved up…

I wouldn’t have felt at peace…

Because…

I would have acted out of my character and wore the Hypocrite Mask to boot-as how can I tell others to do something I only do when “I feel like it!”

Can you imagine how clean parking lots would be if everyone would pick up 5 pieces of trash on their way into the store?

I’ve realized that I don’t do the right thing so that I can get a “thank you”, but I do get something out of it…

I rest easy at night knowing I did my best to tick all of the Integrity and Honor categories through out my day!
