Day 77: How Important Is Sleep?

November 22, 2021: How important is sleep when trying to lose weight?

I’m not an expert, but I can guess it’s pretty important!

If I’m sleep deprived, I don’t have the energy to workout, I’m not in a good place emotionally, or mentally and I tend to over eat.

Oh, and I’m… grouchy, (that’s a really nice way of saying… very, very mean!)

I also tend to think everyone should bow down to me when I’m tired,

And do everything for me…happily and without attitude.

Am I weird?

Let’s see… an article by the Sleep Foundation doesn’t think so lol:

https://www.sleepfoundation.org/physical-health/weight-loss-and-sleep#:~:text=Getting%20adequate%2C%20quality%20sleep%20is,17%20and%20encourage%20overeating18.

Remember, the link still words even though it’s going off this blog post 😉

So, the article is “heavy” on scientific terminology, but this is what I got out of it:

  • Staying up late tempts you to eat more (cause you aren’t sleeping, might as well be eating mentality)
  • Staying up late makes you want foods that are high in calories and carbs (I’ve never craved an apple while watching late night television, so I believe this one!)
  • Staying up late diminishes feelings of fullness (staying up late will make me not feel full the next day-is that what you got out of this one too?)
  • Getting enough sleep boots metabolism (makes sense, but I can’t tell you why lol)
  • Not getting enough sleep can mess with our circadian rhythms (which can lead to bad sleep habits)
  • Less sleep equals less energy (I called that one!)

I’m not sure why the article didn’t address being grouchy, then over eating to soothe negative emotion states I’ve worked myself into by not getting enough sleep.

Maybe that’s an entire article all on it’s own! lol

Today’s weigh in picture:

Person of Honor

Hi! I'm Raynee. I am a Christian, a licensed professional counselor, a wife to a husband I do not deserve-cause he's so wonderful, a mother of two amazing adult children I couldn't be more proud of, and a grandmother AKA Mimi of seven absolutely adorable grandbabies. I am also an Optivia coach, a writer, a speaker, and most importantly (second to being a Christian that is) I am a woman of integrity and honor.
