Day 79: Parent’s Eating Habits

November 24, 2021: Do parent’s eating habits impact their children’s eating habits?

Turns out the answer is “Yes!”

Like grandmother like grandson!

And I’m not even a parent… I’m a Mimi (grandmother)

I didn’t try to get similar pictures of my grandson and I, I just noticed the similarities when I was going through my pictures! lol

Wow!

That makes me want to be a better role-model for my grands!

But… nah, teaching good eating habits is their parent’s responsibility! lol

Not only do parents offer their children certain foods over other foods, which will influence children’s eating habits,

But…

They parents also act as role-models for eating certain foods and not others. (See, parents, not Mimis! lol)

Children will eat what they see their parents eating and will want food items they are familiar with (and ones that are easily accessible, in their kitchen.)

Think about it, if a regular side-dish in your household is broccoli, you ate it.

No questions asked.

If sugary cereals were not allowed in your childhood home, they probably aren’t a main staple in your adult household either.

I especially like:

  • Eating together as a family
  • Not making food a reward or a punishment
  • Keeping healthy foods stocked
  • Having regular meal and snack times
  • Not pressuring your kids to eat
  • Making sure your kids see you eating healthy foods
  • Limiting foods high in calories, fats, and sugars

Remember, being responsible good role models for our children is an expectation of a parent of integrity and honor 😉
